Notes:  Thomas Hancock is listed in the Assessment Roll for 1876 as a farmer on Lot 31 of Ontario's Bosanquet Township on just over 32 acres — 20 of which had been cleared.  His age is listed as 54, but actually was 34.  By the end of 1876, Thomas and Mary Anne had a total of six children (but one having died earlier).

I have been unable to find the Thomas Hancock family in the Canadian 1881 census.  Either they moved temporarily or were indexed incorrectly or not at all.  The actual census is very faint and most names are invisible.

I did not copy the 1895 Assessment Roll, but it had Thomas on Lot 30 in SB concession and Frank Hancock in Lot 31 of SB concession.

In the 1896 Roll, Thomas is listed as age 54.  The land is identified as "E2 E2 32 31".  Frank Hancock's land is adjacent.  The 1897, 1898, and 1899 Rolls are similar (I only copied the 1899 Roll) — except they do not list Frank Hancock.  The 1899 Roll indicates that all 32 acres had been cleared.

"Thomas Hancock and wife" are listed in Source 134 as the Grantee on 11 land tranactions in Bosanquet Lot 31 over a 21-year period.  They are also listed as the Grantor on 10 land transactions in this Lot 31 during the same period.  It is not known whether they resided in Lot 31 during all of these years.  Most of the transactions covered 30-acre blocks of farm land.  Their final sale in March 1896 was listed in the newspaper as being at Lot 35.

The Bosanquet census of 1891 lists nine residents in the Hancock household.  These were Thomas Hancock, 49, a farmer, and his wife Mary A., 47.  The children were Frank, 21, a farmer; William, 16, a farmer; and Nelly, 15, Maud, 12, James, 10, Mary, 8, and Walter, 5.  It does not list son Henry as he died in 1873.  Nor does it list son George or daughter Fannie; they married in 1889 and 1890, respectively, and had moved out of the household.

Wilfred Hancock said they "lived on a farm two or three miles from Forest where they raised wheat and oats, and had hollihocks around the yard.  There was a huge windmill here" (Source 34).
