Bertha & Bill Bertram Notes:  Bertha was born in 1889 in Iowa and grew up there, but later moved to a farm three miles west of Herman, Minnesota.  She married Bill Bertram in 1915.  See the photo at the right.  Berta and her husband Bill next moved to a farm seven miles west of Herman on Highway 27 known as the Cater place.  In 1928 they moved back to the ridge farm called the Aeilts place  In 1930 Bertha and Bill were living at Logan, Grant County, Minnesota, with their three children.

Bertram family farm In 1936, Bertha and Bill bought the Henry Bertram home place on five-mile creek, five miles west of Herman on Highway 27.  See the photo at the left.  They lived there until Bill retired from farming.  They then moved to a house on the west side of Herman.

Following Bill's death in 1974, Bertha moved into an apartment in Herman.  She lived there until at age 97 she fell and broke a hip.  When in the hospital at Fargo, she was heavily medicated.  She was transferred to a nursing home in Browns Valley.  In the fall, when her daughter Virene had to go back to teaching in New Dim, Bertha moved in with her.  She lived with Virene until Bertha needed more intensive care.  She then was moved to Sleepy Eye Nursing Home.

Bertha died in 1991 of natural causes after an illness of three days in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.  She was 101 years old and had been a resident of the Herman area for 84 years.  She was a loving parent, devoted wife, homemaker, and friend to all she knew.  Bertha was a member of Eden Reformed Church and the Reformed Ladies Guild.  Her funeral was held at the Eden Reformed Church and interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Herman.
