Notes: Robert Hancock and Frances (Fanny) Gardener were married 18 Mar 1840 in St. James Church,
Ashreigney, Devon, England. Neither Robert nor Fanny had been previously married and both resided
in Ashreigney. They made their lifetime home in the South Molton area of Devon County.
In the 1841 England census, Robert, 60, and Fanney, 55, were living on Blackpool farm,
South Molton, Devon. Robert was a farmer. Their children at home were William, 20,
Betsey, 20, Ann 15, and Francis, 15. Note, that in this census, each person older than 15
was rounded down by the census taker to the nearest multiple of five (5) years.
Robert died in Feb 1848 in South Molton, North Devon District, Devon. His wife Fanny was
Executrix of his estate. Fanny died in 1883. They are buried in the St. Mary Magdalene
Churchyard, South Molton, Devon.
Note: In a few of the source records the surname Hancock is spelled Handcock.
