Notes: This was the family residence of the Hildebrand family in Alhambra, California.
While the actual street address is given only in the 1910 USA census, it is
assumed to be the same from the time the Hildebrand family moved to Alhambra about
1879. When the family arrived in Alhambra, Charles purchased twelve acres of
land. He errected a three-room cottage, increasing the size of the structure
as the family increased in size. At right, the family is pictured in front of the
home about 1890. He planted the first acreage with grapes,
for wine. He shortly purchased another five acres for an orange grove.
Other members of the extended family built their homes on Wilson Avenue
in Alhambra. Eventually, the acreage was subdivided, and the remaining was
composed of one and a half acre.
In 1880, the children living in the home included Seline, Emma, Tilda, Julia, and
Dora. In 1900, the children included Julia, Dora, Charles, Caroline, and
Alice. Charles (senior) died 1 May 1909. In 1910, only Wilhelmina
and her youngest daughter Alice were living in the home. Wilhelmina died 2 Dec
1915. |
