Notes:  Arthur was born in Iowa on 19 Sep 1871.  His parents were Lewis M. Lawyer, born in Maryland, and Nancy J. Lawyer, born in Pennslyvania.  Nancy's maiden name may have been Kelley.  In the 1880 USA census, Arthur's family was living in Solon, Big Grove Township, Johnson County, Iowa.  There were ten children, two of which were half-brothers to Arthur, from his parents' first marriages.  His father was a dry goods merchant.

Nothing more is known about Arthur until he married Ida E. Olson on 22 Nov 1905 in Alhambra, Los Angeles, California.  This was his second marriage.
In the 1910 USA census, Arthur and Ida, along with their first son Lewis, were living at 30 North Third Street, Alhambra, Los Angeles, California.  He owned the home which was their life-long residence.  By 1920, their family was complete, with Elizabeth and Richard having been added.

As reported in the 1920 and 1930 USA census records, and in the Alhambra directories, Arthur was a bookkeeper and a lumberman for the Olson Lumber Company, which was owned by his brother-in-law, Frank Olson.  Arthur's brother Eugene S. Lawyer, and wife Minnie, also lived in Alhambra.  Arthur was a member of Alhambra Lodge No. 322, F. & A.M., and of Al Malaikah Temple of the Shrine of Los Angeles.

In the 1940 USA census, Arthur and Ida were living alone in their family home.  Arthur was still working at the lumber company, and earned $1,800. in 1939.  He had finished 2 years of high school.  Following a lingering illness, Arthur died at home at 30 North Third Street, on 12 May 1945, having been preceeded in death by his wife Ida in 1944.  He is buried in the Rose Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Whittier, California, along with his wife.
