Notes:  John Detwiller was born 6 May 1850 in Fullarton Twp., Perth, Ontario.  He was the eighth child of Christian and Marian Detwiller.  He grew up on the family's 160 acre farm in Fullarton.  He married Selina Baker on 30 Dec 1875 in Elma Twp., Perth, Ontario.
John and Selina started their married life living near the town of London in Middlesex County.  Their first son Charles was born in 1876 in Westminster Twp.  He was followed by Minnie in 1878, Julia, 1881 (London Twp;), Emma, 1882, John (Will), 1884, and James, 1886.

Shortly after James was born, John and Selina moved their family west to the Province of Manitoba.  In the 1891 Canada census, they were living in the Rural Muncipality of Cornwallis.  Franklin their seventh child was three years old and had been born in Manitoba.  Their last daughter, Eva, was born in 1892.  Moving farther west, John and Selina lived in the Glenwood/Hayfield area of Brandon, Manitoba.  In the 1901 Canada census, John was the census taker for his district.  Minnie and Julia were no longer living at home.  Living with them was grandson John A. Stewart, age 5.  Their farm was on Sec. 23, Twp. 8, Range 20 W, W 1st Meridian.

In the 1906 Manitoba census, the family had 17 horses, 12 milk cows, 96 other cattle, and 30 pigs.  By the 1911 Canada census, Charles had left home, their grandson was still with them, and they had a servant named Margaret C. Braus, age 24.  Sometime after 1911, John and Selina Detwiller moved and were living in Cornwallis near Brandon, Manitoba.  In the 1916 Manitoba census, only three of their children were living with them.  John lived his entire life as a farmer.

John died in 13 Jan 1920, and Selina died 11 Apr 1922.  Both are buried in the Brandon Hills Church Cemetery, Brandon, Manitoba.
