Notes:  Harold James Detwiller was born 7 May 1903 in Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota.  His parents were Andrew Mathieson Detwiller and Isabella Elliott Beattie.  He was the oldest of four children.  In the 1910 U.S. census, his family was living in Tyrol Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  It included his sisters Myrtle Evelyn, born in 1904, and Vivian Edith, 1908.  His father was a grain farmer. In the 1915 North Dakota census, Harold was living with his family in Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota.  The family was now complete with the addition of Ronald Henry, born in 1915.  In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was back farming in Tyrol Twp., Griggs.  The children, except for the youngest one, were attending school.  In the 1925 North Dakota census, the entire family, seen at right, was together. Harold married Gertrude (Gertie) Evelyn Sansburn on 24 Feb 1926.  Their only child, Andrew (AndyBill) William was born 3 Sep 1927.  In the 1930 U.S. census, Harold, 27, and Gertrude, 30, were farming on a rented farm.  Their son Andrew was 2½ years.  They moved to Wisconsin in 1936. In the 1940 U.S. census, Harold, 36, Gertrude, 41, and Andrew, 12, were living in Downsville, Dunn Town, Dunn, Wisconsin.  Harold had an 8th grade education, and was farming on his own account.   A farm laborer, Clarence Rudd, 24, was living with them. At some point in time, the family made their home in Menomonie, Dunn, Wisconsin, where Harold worked for Farmers Union Oil Co, for many years before retiring.  Their son Andrew developed cancer of the spine, and died 9 Apr 1943.  Gertrude died 19 Dec 1949 in Menomonie. Years later, around 1965, Harold married Clara M. (Brehm) Mousel.  Harold died 12 Mar 1975 in Menomonie.  He is buried with his son Andrew and first wife Gertrude in Froens Cemetery, Menomonie, Dunn, Wisconsin.
