In the 1921 Canada census, the family was living in St. Peter's Municipality #369, Saskatchewan, specificially on Sec. 4, Twp. 38, Range 19, West 2nd Meridian.  This homestead was located six miles north of Englefeld.  Vernon was 10 years and his younger siblings were Mabel, 9, Anton, 8, Myrrel, 7, Gladys, 5, Ralph, 4, and Beulah, 2.  Three more siblings were added in the ensuing years.  The census recorded their religious preference as Methodist, and they were members of the United Church in Englefeld.

Vernon attended the Greenside School, and was on the baseball and hockey teams.  He married Florence Myrtle Detwiller on 18 Jul 1936.  They had a family of four children.  Vernon farmed with his father until he moved his family to Humboldt.  He worked as a lineman for R.J. Macrae, a contractor of Saskatoon, G.F. Brandon of Regina, and finally for the Saskatchewan Power Company (SPC).  He was a district lineman at Watson in 1948, construction lineman at Humboldt in 1960, and made journeyman in 1975.

Vernon and his wife made their home in Humbolt, Saskatchewan.  In 1968, 1972, and 1974, Vernon Strome, SPC, and Mrs. Florence Strome, were registered to vote in Humbolt, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Florence died in 1978.  Vernon eventually went to live in the Middle Lake Home.  He died in 2001.  Both he and his wife are buried in the Humbolt Public Cemetery, Humboldt RM #370, Saskatchewan.
