According to the The Imperial review  [p. 384], Jean attended the Meadowville public school, and completed her grade twelve in Imperial.  She began her Normal School training at Moose Jaw Normal School, and graduated from Regina Normal School in June 1936.  She taught for one year in Lake City, and four years at Meadowville.

Jean married William George Detwiller on 8 Jul 1941, her 31st birthday.  They lived in Innis Detwiller's first house, across the tracks from his parents.  In 1946, they moved to her parents house, when the Woodley's retired to Imperial.  Jean and William had three children.

In 1945, Jean is listed as Mrs. George Detwiller in the Canada Voter Lists in the electoral district named Lake Centre.  Her husband is listed as a farmer in Imperial.  In 1958, 1962, 1963, and 1965, the electoral district is Moose Jaw-Lake Centre.

Jean's husband William died 16 Mar 1968.  Jean married Howard Vance in 1969.  Howard had previously been married to Ruby Richards, and had six children.  They lived in Imperial, and spent their winter months in Weslaco, Texas.

Jean died 4 Jun 2005 while residing at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility.  A Memorial Service was held 9 Jun 2005, at St. Andrew's United Church, Imperial, conducted by Chuck Pluckett.  She is buried with her first husband William Detwiller in the Imperial Cemetery, Imperial, Saskatchewan.
