Notes:  Ray Kent was born 22 Aug 1895 in Blakesburg*, Wapello, Iowa.  His parents were William Harrison Kent and Alice Jane Reed.  His mother died died 4 Feb 1899.  In the 1900 U.S. census, his father William H. Kent was living in Adams Twp., Wapello, Iowa with three of his sons.  These were Homer, age 14, Charley, 12, and John, 10.  Ray does not appear in the census records.  William was a farmer.

In the 1910 U.S. census, Ray, age 14, was living in Adams Twp., Wapello, Iowa with his father, a general farmer.  On 5 Jun 1917 when Ray, age 21, registered for the World War I draft, he was living at Ft. Keogh Reservation, Miles City, Montana.  He was an unemployed farmer, described as short with gray eyes and brown hair.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Ray, age 22, was living with the Eugene H. Garr family in School District 78, Powder River, Montana.  Ray was farm laborer for a general farm.  His father, William H. Kent, 68, was enumerated next in the census as head of his own household, living alone.  William was a farm operator of a general farm.

Ray married Myrtle Evelyn Detwiller on 3 Feb 1926 in Tyrol Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  In the 1930 U.S. census, they were living in Broadus, Powder River, Montana.  Their son Robert was 1 year, 9 months.  Ray was a farmer.  In the 1940 U.S. census, Robert was now 12 years, and Ray was working as a carpenter.  At some point in time, they moved 79 miles north to Miles City, Custer, Montana.

After an extended illness, Myrtle died 12 May 1958 at Miles City, Custer, North Dakota.  Ray died later that year on 21 Aug 1958 at Miles City.  Both are buried in the Custer County Cemetery, Miles City, North Dakota.

*Blakesburg, Iowa is given as Ray Kent's birthplace on his Registration Card for the World War I Draft Registration.  Undocumented family sources have given Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa as his birth place.
