Notes:  Mary Evelyn Detwiller was born 5 May 1921 in Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota.  She was the oldest child of Harry Russel Detwiller and Lillian Ellen Williams.  In the 1925 North Dakota Census, the family was farming on the original Detwiller family farm, 7 miles north of Cooperstown in Tyrol Twp., Griggs County.  It included her parents, and her brother William Henry, born in 1924.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Mary's siblings now included Catherine Eileen, born in 1926, and Patrick Roger, 1929.  Myrtle Hasel, 16, was living with the family.  By the 1940 U.S. census, Mary had completed four years of high school, having graduated from Cooperstown High School.  She attended the Minneapolis Business College, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was employed as a bookkeeper in Milwaukee until her marriage.  She later used her accounting skills for the farm business and as bookkeeper for several of her children.

On 5 Sep 1942, Mary married Herman Joseph Palzkill at St. Michaels Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  They made their home in Dodgerville, Iowa, Wisconsin, where their fourteen children were born.

Mary and Herman later made their home in Mineral Point, Iowa, Wisconsin.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers/Altar Society.  Herman died 22 Mar 1996 in Mineral Point, and is buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Mineral Point.  After a long illness, Mary died 5 Oct 2008, at the Mineral Point Care Center.  She is buried with her husband in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
