Notes:
Fredrick (Fred) Detwiller and Martha Jane Armstrong were married 15 Mar 1916 in
Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota. She had been working as a domestic in his
family's home prior to the marriage. They had one child, Lenore Helen, born
4 Aug 1918.
In 1920 and 1930 U.S. censuses, the family is found on their farm in Tyrol Twp., Griggs,
located seven miles north of Cooperstown. Oddly, in the 1925 North Dakota census,
Fred is listed with his brother Harry's family. He is also listed with Martha and
Lenore, and others, as living in Cooperstown, not on their farm. Fred died on
1 March 1938. Their daughter Lenore married Willaim Paintner on 29 Jun 1938.
In the 1940 U.S. census, Martha was still on the farm
with her brother William Armstrong as partner. Martha lived on for many years,
passing away 30 August 1970, at the age of 90. Both she and Fred are buried in
the Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, North Dakota. |
