| Notes: Adelaide Martha Jackson was born 8 Dec 1868 in Toquerville, Washington, Utah. She
was the eighth of ten children of James Jackson, Jr., and his first wife Annis Bedford (m. 1857). In the 1870
U.S. census, Adelaid, 2, was living with her parents, James Jackson, 40, and Annis, 35, in Tokerville, Kane,
Utah Territory. Her parents had both been born in England, and her father was a farmer. Her siblings
were Mary L. 10, Rose E., 6, Franklin, 2, and Charles, 9 months. Adelaide's father, James Jackson, was a polygamist, and his second wife was Sarah Ann Stapley (m. 1868) and third, Martha McFate. In the 1880 U.S. census, Adalade, 10, was living with her father, James, 52, and his extended family on Spring Street in Springdale, Kane, Utah. Her father was still farming. The family members included his second wife, Martha, 28, with Franklin B., 10, William D., 8, Joseph, 5, Anas, 3, Levi, 2, and Rhoda May, 6 months. His third wife, Sarah Anne, 28, had five children, including Charles Thomas, 10, Johnathen, 8, Jessa, 5, Hyram, 3, and Isreal, 6 months. Also included in the family were Adelaide's siblings from his first marriage, including Mary Lydia, 19, Rosa Ellan, 14, and George Samuel, 5. In the 1900 U.S. census, Adelaide Jackson, 31, a dressmaker, was living with her stepmother, Martha, 48, in Toquerville, Washington, Utah. Included in the household were her brother, George, 25, a carpenter, and step-siblings Levi D., 21, and Alonzo, 18, both farmers, Lovenia, 17, Harvey A., 10, and Hyrum, 23, a day laborer. Adelaide M. Jackson married Walter H. Slack on 28 Aug 1900, in St. George, Washington, Utah. They had grown up together in Toquerville. In the 1910 U.S. census, Adeliade Slack, 31, and Walter E. Slack, 31, were living in Toquerville, Washington, Utah. Walter was a farner, working on his own account. Their home was owned with a mortgage. The children from Walter's first marriage were Selinda, 19, Irma, 17, Walter H., Jr., 14, and Nellie, 10. Their children were Riley L., 8, Harold E., 6, Adele, 4, Lulu, 2, and Francis M., 6 months. In the 1920 U.S. census, Alaide Slack, 51, and Walter H., 51, were living on their farm on State Road in Toquerville, Washington, Utah. Walter was the Postmaster. Their home still had a mortgage. The children at home included Walter H., 24, and Riley L., 18, both working as laborers on the farm; Harold C., 16, Adele, 14, Llola, 12, Francis M., 10, and Glen J., 8, all attending school. In the 1930 U.S. census, Adelaide M. Slack, 61, and Walter H., 61, were living on the West Side of Main Street, Toquerville, Washington, Utah. Their home was owned, valued at $3,000., and they did not have a radio set. Walter was a general farmer with employees. Still at home were Riley L., 28, and Francis M., 20, both working on road building. Also in the home was Oliver Slack, 69, Walter's brother. Adelaide died 14 Jan 1937 at their home in Toquerville of Uremia following Pneumonia. She was buried in the Toquerville Cemetery on 16 Dec 1937. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
