Notes: Sarah E. Corey was born about 1852, probably in Newark, New Jersey. Her parents were Wheelock Corey and Phebe Stuart. In the 1860 U.S. census, Sarah E., 9, was living with her parents, Wheelock Corry, 33, and Phebe, 28, in Ward 8 of Newark, New Jersey. Her siblings were Anna, 6, and Samuel, 1 year. Also living in the household were her aunt Lydia Corry, 24, and uncle David Corry, 27. Her father was a teamster and her uncle drove a coal wagon.

Sarah E. Corey, 17, married George Pettit, 21, in Manhattan, New York on 20 Oct 1868. No census record has been found for the couple in 1870, but her husband was living in his parents' household.

They had a daughter, Frances Lydia Pettit, born 5 Oct 1875, in Newark, New Jersey. Sarah died in child birth, or shortly thereafter. George was unable to care for her, so Frances was raised by William and Mary Nichols, and later the Bowens. No death record has been found for Sarah.
