Notes: George Pettit, 21, and Sarah E. Corey, 17, were married in Manhattan, New York on 20 Oct 1868,
by the Rev. J. Dowling. Both were residents of Newark, New Jersey.
No census record has been found for the couple in 1870. However, George, 20,
is found with his parents in the 1870 census, living in Newark Ward 5, Essex, New Jersey. He was
a boatman.
George and Sarah had a daughter, Frances Lydia Pettit, born 5 Oct 1875 in Newark, Essex, New Jersey.
Sarah died at or shortly after the birth, and George, unable to care for her, gave their daughter to
William and Mary Nichols to be raised.
No death record has been found for either George or Sarah.
