Notes:  Joseph D. Williams was born in Mar 1870 in Richland Twp., Allegheny, Pennsylvania.  He was the ninth child of David P. Williams and Mary Ann McCaw.  In the 1870 USA census Joseph, 3 months, was living with his family in the Richland Twp.  His older siblings were James, 18, Thomas, 14, Harmon, 12, Elizabeth, 12, Theodore, 9, Anna, 7, Margaret, 5, and David, 3.  His father was a farmer.

In the 1880 USA cen, Joseph D., 10, going to school, was living with his family in the Richland Twp.  His siblings were Lizza J., 21, John T., 18, farm laborer, Anna M., 16, Margaret A., 13, David P., 12, farm laborer, and Gertrude E., 5.

He was an evangelical minister who led tent revival meetings — including one in San Francisco when Simeon Williams was in high school.
