Notes:  *Middle initial conflict:  Helen had three different middle initials as follows:
                1.   "M" as used to record her birth in the California Birth Index.
                2.   "W" as she used when she registered to vote in 1940.
                3.   "L" as recorded on the crypt where her remains reside.
In none of the above three cases was a middle name spelled out.  Thus, contrary to some published family histories (e.g., Source 867), no evidence has been found that Helen's middle name was Wilhelmina.  Helen's granddaughter recalled her mother saying that Helen hated her middle name — whatever it was!  The middle name of Helen's mother was Wilhemina, perhaps leading to the original confusion within the family.  Thus, it is not surprising that the middle initial on her crypt is L, where it undoubtedly came from the L in her maiden name Lindquist.

Helen always enjoyed trips to Lake Tahoe.  During her teenage years she was an active skier while attending Turlock High School.  The photo at the far right was probably Helen's high school graduation picture in 1935 or 1936.

In 1940, when she was old enough to vote, Helen registered as a Republican in the East Turlock Precinct of California.  She gave her occupation as Secretary. Helen Lindquist Helen Lindquist Helen Lindquist

Helen married in 1942.  The photos at the right show the new Mrs. Helen L. Martin at Lake Tahoe the day after her wedding.  In the far right photo she has a great big smile and looks very happy.

Helen Lindquist Helen Lindquist The photos at the right show Helen in her later years.  The rightmost photo was taken in 1968 with her two dogs.  Helen's granddaughter gave Helen credit for raising four children on her own and managing to keep the house after the sudden and shocking loss of her husband in 1960.  Perhaps she did it because of her Depression-era experiences.  Helen's daughter told of how one of her chores was to sand chicken eggs for sale.

Helen and her daughter Sharon lived on Hedgeside Avenue in Napa prior to Sharon's marriage on 24 Jan 1968.

Helen passed on in 1970 at age 52 years and two months — 10¼ years after her husband's suicide.
