Notes:  Bessie said that when she was a young girl her family relied on a horse for transportation and she would often ride the horse bareback. She enjoyed knitting, puzzles, watching soap operas, and babysitting her grandchildren.  She also loved her pet budgie birds — and kept their cage by a window so they could see outdoors. Bessie did not attend church, but she always wore a crucifix necklace.  In about 1965 she lost all of her belongings in a house fire; thankfully no one was hurt. The 1st photo at the right shows Bessie in the 1960s — or earlier. The 2nd photo shows Bessie and her mother, Lily Bellivean, in 1963, and the 3rd photo shows Bessie with her granddaughter Liz Nickels in 1966. The 4th photo shows Bessie with infant great-grandson Andrew in 1992. The 5th photo shows Bessie with her son Bill Nickels in 2003, and the 6th photo shows Bessie with her daughter Dixie in 2009.  The final photo (below) shows Bessie in 1999.
