Notes: John McFarren (#2) and Elizabeth Foust migrated from Pennsylvania
(probably Westmoreland County), to Ohio, and then to Indiana. Elizabeth may have been named Anna Maria Elizabeth Foust, but I have no confirmed evidence of this. She seemed to mostly go by the name Elizabeth, and later by the name Martha. Source 653 says they were married in Ohio in 1824; however, other sources say they were married in Pennsylvania in 1816. Since their two oldest alledged children were born in 1817 and 1819, the date of 1816 is more reasonable than 1824 especially since Elizabeth was about 20 years old in 1816. They left PA for Ohio probably between 1819 and 1821. They may have travelled via the National Road to get to Highland County, Ohio. They left Ohio for Indiana probably in 1838 (per Source 546 notes on John McFarren). After arriving in Huntington County, Indiana, in 1838, they moved on to Wells County, Indiana, in 1839. (John died there many years later.) The 1840 census (Source 748) indicates that they had 4 sons (age 10 to 30) and 5 daughters (age 15 or less) living at home. However, their alleged oldest child married in 1835 and their youngest was not yet born in 1840. Hence, I conclude that they had at least 11 children: 5 sons and 6 daughters. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
