Joseph Imboden family Notes:  This family apparently used Joe's Italian surname Garbode until 1900 or soon thereafter, but had switched to the Imboden surname by 1908.

The photo at the right shows the Joe's family in early 1909.  The five children from oldest to youngest are Eddie, Ray, Louie, Pete, and baby Lena.
In the U.S. 1910 census Joe and Basilia reported that they had had 9 children, 6 of whom were then alive.  (However, I can only identify 5 of the 6 children then alive:  those in the photo above.)

The 3 children not then alive were Joseph and Matilda, who died of pneumonia or measles, and baby Annie who was born on 27 Apr 1910 and died before the census was taken.  Joe and Basilia bought a single cemetery plot and buried the 3 babies in it.  Later, when Basilia died, the children were dug up and moved into their mother's mausoleum crypt.  The children's original plot was then sold. Joe & Bill Imboden

Three more children were born after Apr 1910.  Joe and Basilia wanted to name a son after his father, but their earlier son Joseph had died.  So they named their last child Joseph.  These 11 children were most probably all born in the city of Napa, California.

All of the surviving children attended St. John's Catholic School.  The 1926 photo at the left shows the two youngest children and the third Imboden home in Napa.
