Notes:  Esther P. Kauffman was born 24 Nov 1907 to Meyer and Rachael Kauffman.  She was next to the youngest of at least eight (8) children.  Her parents were both immigrants from Kovno (now Kaunas), Lithuania, Russia, arriving in the United States separately, in 1889 and 1891.  They were Jewish, and their native tongue was Hebrew.  In the 1920 U.S. census, Esther's family was living at 346 Cedar Street, Reading, Pennsylvania.  Meyer was a dealer of something (the census record is unclear). In the 1930 U.S. census, Esther, age 26, was still living with the family, now at 542 North 8th Street, Reading.  Her mother had evidently passed away, and her father was retired.  Esther married Harold M. Miller sometime between 1931 and 1935.  They had one daughter, born in 1936. In 1937, Esther and her husband and daughter were living at 307 Perkasie Avenue in West Lawn, a suburb of Reading, Pennsylvania.  They are listed in the 1940 U.S. census in West Lawn.  Harold was a truck driver, and later became a platform man.  After the death of her father- in-law Christian Miller in 1944, her mother-in-law Dorthy Miller moved into their home.  Dorothy died following a stairway fall in 1948. By 1950, Esther and Harold had moved to "2729 Bellmont Avenue" in West Lawn.  This is according to the 1950 City Directory.  In a personal letter written by Esther to Pete and Evelyn Miller, she writes the home address as 2725 Belmont Ave.  According to family interviews, Esther was a school teacher at some time in her life. According to family records, Harold died at the age of 53 years on 20 November 1956, in Reading, Pennsylvania.  Esther died at the age of 77 years on 22 Feb 1885, also in Reading.  Both are buried in the Saint Johns Cemetery in Wernersville, Berks, Pennsylvania.
