Notes: Harriett Martineau Fishback was born 31 May 1893, probably in Alhambra, California, as that was where the family's residence was. Her parents were Henry Fishback and Rachel Hildebrand. She may have been named for the English social theorist and Whig writer Harriett Martineau (1802-1876), as her parents were later registered to vote as members of the Socialist party. She had an older brother Charles, born in 1889, and an older sister Minnie, born in 1891. Her younger sisters Martha and Francis were born in 1895 and 1898, respectively.

In the 1900 USA census, the family was living at 28 S. Electric Ave.in Alhambra. Harriett's father still called himself a miner. Her brother Henry was born in 1902, sisters Adel and Almira in 1906 and 1909, respectively. In the 1910 USA census, her father listed himself as a carpenter, as did her brother Charles. Minnie was a telephone operator. Harriet's youngest brother was born in 1911. Her sister Francis, who had been born mentally or physically retarded, died in 1915.

Harriett married James Franklin Spainhower on 27 May 1914 in Los Angeles County, California.. Their son John Everett was born 27 Aug 1914. James was a fireman. In the 1920 USA census, they were renting a residence at 123 South Palm Ave., Alhambra. The marriage did not last, and it is presumed that they got a divorce.

Harriet married George Thomas Baisley on 26 Mar 1928. They are listed in the 1928 Alhambra City Directory living at 327 Hershey Ave, Wilmar. Their son George Thomas Jr. was born in Arizona on 7 Nov 1929. In the 1930 USA census, the family was living in Globe, Arizona. It included Harriett's oldest son John, from her first marriage, who took the surname Baisley. George listed himself as a foreman for a stage company. The family returned to California before 1935. In 1938, Harriet was registered as a Democrat in a San Gabriel precinct. Their address again 327 Hershey Avenue.

In the 1940 USA census, Harriet, George, and George Jr., were listed at the Hershey Avenus address. George was a auto mechanic. Harriet had an eight grade education. In later years, the family lived in Lomita, Los Angeles County, California.

Harriett died 5 Apr 1957 in Los Angeles County, California. Her husband George lived until 1977. Both are buried in Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
