Notes:  Samuel Davis was born 6 Jan 1843, probably in King Township, York County, Ontario.  Nothing more is known about him, except that he had a brother.  He married Mary Detwiller in April 1869.  The couple moved to Illinois, then Kansas for two years, then back to Illinois.  He is finally found in the U.S. census records in 1880.  He and Mary were living in Concord Township, Ottawa, Kansas.  He was listed as a farmer.  Living with them was a nephew, Lewis Davis, age 9.

About 1895, Samuel and Mary moved to North Dakota, farming in Tyrol Township, Griggs County.  Farming nearby was his brother-in-law Henry Detwiller.  About 1906 Samuel and Mary moved back to Kansas, settling in Minneapolis, Ottawa County.  In the 1910 U.S. census, they were living on Sheridan Street.

Samuel died 2 May 1914.  Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, the Rev. Chas W. Seville presiding.  He was buried in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas.
