Notes:  Samuel Charles Bergsten was born 4 Nov 1904 in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas.  His parents were Alp Bergstein and Johannah Erikson, of Swedish descent.  In the 1905 Kansas State census, the family was living on a farm 4 miles southwest of Delphos, Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas.  His father Alp was a farmer, and the farm and house were owned free of mortgage.  Samuel was 4 months, and he had an older sister Dora, 3 years. In the 1910 U.S. census, Samuel's family was still living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa County, and his newest sister Ellen was 3.  His brother Robert was born in 1911.  In 1911 the family moved to Centerville, Mississippi for one year.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Samuel was living with his family in Meredith Twp., Cloud, Kansas.  Their farm was located 7 miles northeast of Delphos.  Dora, 18, Samuel, 15, Ellen, 12, and Robert, 9, were all in school.  In the 1925 Kansas State census, Meredith Twp., Cloud County, Dora was a school teacher, and Samuel was farming on the farm.

Samuel married Florence Marian Smith on 20 Mar 1926 in Belleville, Republic, Kansas.  In the 1930 U.S. census, Samuel and Florence were living in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas.  Samuel was a general farmer.  They were renting, and had a radio set.  Living with the family was Gertie Smith, a public school teacher and sister of Florence.

In the 1940 U.S. census, rural Logan Twp., Ottawa County, Samuel and Florence M. Bergsten, 36, owned their residence, valued at $800.  Samuel was farming on his own account, and both had completed four years of high school.  Their son Lester D. Bergsten, 9, born in Kansas, had completed 4th grade.

Samuel and Florence later moved to Sheridan Twp., Ottawa County, their address being RR01 Box 70, Delphos, Kansas.  Samuel died 1 Dec 1986.  He is buried in the Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas.
