Notes: According to her birth certificate, Jean Lillian Reese was born 3 Nov 1905 in McCabe, Yavapai, Arizona. She was the youngest of three children. Her parents were Walter Reese and Nettie M. Heck. Family records often report her first name as Lillian, but she always preferred her birth name Jean. Many records report her birthdate as 4 Nov instead of 3 Nov 1905.

In the 1910 U.S. census, the family was living in Bakersfield, Kern, California. W. G. Reece, 36, was a real estate dealer, and her mother, Margarite A. was 34. The children were Margarite A., 10, Garvyn B., 8, and Lillian Jean, 4. Their home at 1211 9th Street was rented.

In the 1910 Los Angeles City Directory, Walter G. Reese is found at 836 E. 21st Street.

The family is not found in the 1920 U.S. census.

Jean Reese, 19, married Gounod Romandy, 31, on 19 Aug 1924 in Los Angeles, California. Their first child, Gounod Arthur, was born in 1925. In the 1930 U.S. census, Jean, 24, and Gounod, 36, were living at 721 Vista, Los Angeles, California. Gounod was a musician in the motion picture industry. Their son Gounod was 4 8/12 years. Their daughter Dianne was born in 1939.

In 1935, the newspaper reports that Jean had a display of her craft work at the San Gabriel Artists Guild.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Lillian J., 34, and Gounod, 46, were still in the same house. They owned the home, valued at $3250. Gounod was listed as a musician/violinist. Lillian had completed 3 years of high school. Gounod A., 14, had completed 2 years of high school. Their daughter Dianne was 1 year. Jean's husband died 19 Feb 1942, leaving Jean with two young children.
