Notes: Astor Sands Strome married Julia Maud Detwiller on 4 Oct 1899 in the Rural Municipality of Glenwood,
Manitoba. Their first child Myrtle May was born 5 May 1900 in Brandon.
In 1901 Astor, Julia, and Myrtle were living in Brandon City. Their second child
Wilfred Roy was born 21 Sep 1902 in Alexander, Manitoba. On 22 July 1904 Harvey
Melvin was born in the Rural Municipality of Daly. In 1906, Astor and Julia,
and their three children, were living on Sec. 14, Twp. 8, Range 20, W1 in Souris,
Manitoba.
Shortly after the 1906 Canada census, Astor and Julia moved their family to Saskatchewan.
They homesteaded on Sec. 32, Twp. 37, Range 19 W2, on the road to Englefeld, and built
a large home. Bertha Irene was born 7 Jun 1909, Eva Minerva on 20 Feb 1911,
Nelson Astor (Bud) on 19 Jan 1913, Frank Gordon on 9 Feb 1915, Minnie Lorraine on
10 Oct 1917, Dorothy Maud on 5 Sep 1921, and finally James Arthur on 19 Feb 1926.
According to A History of Englefeld, 1903 - 1987,
the family homestead was located at Greenside, and the children attended the Greenside
School.
All of the children married and had families of their own, except Frank,
who was killed overseas in 1943. Astor died 15 Mar 1947 due to cancer.
Julia died 17 Feb 1963. Both are buried in the
Englefeld Union Cemetery, Englefeld, Saskatchewan. |
