Notes: Virgil E. McKain and Esther Alma Smith were married sometime in the mid 1930's,
probably in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. In the 1940 U.S. census, Virgil and Esther were
living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Virgil was a farmer, and they were
renting. He had completed eighth grade, was working on his own account, having worked 24
weeks in 1939, with an income of $600. He had other sources of income. Esther had
completed four years of high school. They had a son, Duane, age 3, born in Kansas.
Family notes report that they made their home in Delphos, Ottawa, Kansas.
Virgil died 30 Oct 1960. Esther died 14 Jun 1965. They are both buried in the
Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas. |
