"Edgar S. Wilson

MONKTON. -- Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon for Edgar S. Wilson, a general merchant here for over 50 years who died at his home on Friday after a short illness.  A private service at the house was followed by a public service in Monkton United Church, with Rev. James Cross, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. J.T. Hislop of Burlington, officiating.  Orgnist was Mrs. Carl Holman.  The choir was in attendance.  Temporary entombment was made in the Elma Centre mausoleum, with burial to be made at a later date.  There were many floral arrangements.  Pallbearers were Kenneth McNaught, Charles W. Merryfield, Charles Posliff, Sidney Jones, and Frank Howes, all of Monkton.  Flowerbearers were Jack Bettger, Murray Brown, Jack McLean, Robert Renwick, Earl Tapp, and William Ward, all of Monkton.  Friends and relatives attended from Toronto, Burlington, Guelph, Stratford, London, Listowel, Monkton, and surrounding district."

**"County Auditor and Mrs. A. F. Noble of Mott came to New England Wednesday evening, accompanied by Miss Marion Noble of Alhambra, California, who has been enjoying a visit with her brother.  They were met here by Editor G.E. Griswold of the Slope County News of Amidon and went to the Slope County seat to visit for a few days."

***The obituary of Mrs. Alexander Campbell reads as follows:
"Mrs. Alexander Campbell" [pencil notation - Sept.19xx?]
      "On Friday last, Mary Brown, widow of the late Alexander Campbell, formerly of Logan, passed away after four days illness from 'flu at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Noble, of Cranbrook, in her 81st year.  She was a daughter of the late Thomas Brown, of Logan, and was married over 60 years ago [to Alexander Campbell] who predeceased her by 22 years.  She spent most of her life near Monkton.  She is survived by six sons and four daughters, namely:  Andrew, of Stratford; Thomas, of Monkton; George, of Clinton; John, of Durban, Man.; Robert, of Flint, Mich.;Robina, Mrs. James Noble, of Cranbrook; Maggie, Mrs. Alex Coulter, of Vancouver; Minnie, Mrs. Allan Cameron, Cranbrook; Jean, Mrs. Vess Osborne, of Cranbrook.  She is also survived by one brother, Thomas Brown, of Hallock, Mich.  The funeral took place from the home of her son-in-law, Jas. Noble, to Harvey's Cemetery, Logan, on Monday.  Rev. Mr. Williams, of Cranbrook, officiated.  The pallbearers were, Messrs. Andrew, Thomas, George and Robert Campbell, James Noble and Allan Cameron.  Among the relatives and friends from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. J. Campbell of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. J. Murray, of Stratford; Mr. Harry Campbell, of Kitchener; Mrs. Alf Raymond and Ruth, Miss Nellie Foster, of London and Mr. and Mrs. George Campbell, of Clinton."

          "Tall gladioli and ferns formed an effective setting in the United Church, Monkton, Monday afternoon [6 Sep 1945] for the marriage of Jean Isabelle, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar S. Wilson, Monkton, to Mr. Robert Wilson Moorehead, Belleville, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Moorehead, 13 Ross st., this city.  Rev. J. T. Hislop, Paris, uncle of the bride, officiated at the ceremony at 2:00 o'clock, assisted by Rev. George J. Minielly, Monkton.
          Given in marriage by her father . . ..
          Miss Margaret Wilson, Listowel, was bridesmade for her sister . . .. Mr. Gerald Moorehead, this city, was groomsman for his brother and the ushers were Mr. William McNaught, Woodstock, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Douglas Moorehead, this city, brother of the bridegroom.
          Miss Ariel McNaught played the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin . . ..
          A wedding luncheon was served at the home of the bride's aunt, Miss Olive Wilson, . . ..  Mrs. George J. Minielly, Monkton, and Mrs. J. T. Hislop, Paris, presided at the table . . ..
          Later, Mr. and Mrs. Moorehead left on a trip to Muskoka . . ..  The couple will reside in Belleville."
