Vernon Worthen married Lorna Perkins on 11 Jun 1918 in the St. George Temple, St. George, Washington, Utah.  He entered the U.S. Army on 7 May 1919, serving for a year, partially in France.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Vernon Worthen, 24, and Lorna, 22, were living in Glenwood, Sevier, Utah.  Vernon was a public school teacher.  They were renting their home.  Their first daughter, Aileen Worthen, was born 17 Jan 1920 in Glenwood, Sevier, Utah.  Their second daughter, Nevada Worthen, was born in Nevada in 1922, but died 10 Mar 1924 of bronchial pneumonia in St. George.  Their first son, Robert Verne Worthen, was born in 1924 in St. George, but also died of bronchial pneumonia on 13 Feb 1926 in St. George.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Vernon Worthen, 34, and Lorna, 32, were living on Main Street, St. George, Washington, Utah.  Vernon was a Principal in the district school.  They owned their home, valued at $2,500.  Their daughter Aileen was 10.  Their second son Vernon LaVon was born in 1931 in St. George.  Also in 1931, Vernon graduated from Brigham Young University.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Vernon Worthen, 44, and Lorna P., 42, were living at 139 West 100 North, St. George. Washington, Utah.  Vernon was still a principal, and had completed 4 years of college.  Lorna had completed, 2 years of college.  They owned their home, valued at $3,000.  Their children were Aileen, 20, 2 years of college and working as a waitress, and Vernon La Von, 8, 2 years of school.

In the 1950 U.S. census, Vernon Worthen, 55, and Lorna, 52, were living at 200 S 100 W Lab, St. George, Washington, Utah.  Vernon was the principal of an elementary school, and Lorna was a typist for a newspaper.  Their son, V. LaVon was 18.  Enumerated next to them was his mother, Lenora W. Worthen, 84, a widow.

Both Vernon and Lorna were active in the L.D.S. Church and in the St. George community.

Lorna died 5 Oct 1982, in the St. George Care Center, St. George.  She had been incapitated for some years, and Vernon had spent many hours caring for her and other patient's needs in the care center.  Vernon died at home in St. George on 27 Nov 1984.  Both are buried in the St. George City Cemetery, St. George, Washington, Utah.
