| Notes: O. Nelson Rushworth and Isabella Detwiller were married on 2 Apr 1903 in the
Avonbank Presbyterian Church, Downie Twp., Perth, Ontario. Bell listed her
residence as Mitchell, Ontario, and Nelson listed his as Jamestown, New York, USA.
Nelson and Bell had evidently met in Jamestown, which was Nelson's hometown.
Bell had moved to Jamestown in 1890, living with her older brothers and sisters.
In 1900, both she and Nelson were working as bookkeepers, he for the Farmer's and
Mechanics' Bank. Returning to Jamestown, they eventually settled into their
long time family residence at 12 Lakeview Avneue. Their first daughter, Ruth Elizabeth, was born 7 Sep 1906. Grace Marion was born 6 Jan 1908. In 1910, the census records report that Marion Detwiller, Bell's older sister was living with the family. Marion was a private nurse. Also, living with them was Bell's Cousin, Harry Lorne McNaught, working in a metal furniture factory. Nelson and Bell's only son, Elverton Crissey, was born 17 Nov 1910, followed by Isabelle on 12 Nov 1916. The family was now complete. In 1919, Bell's sister Marion, who had never married, died and was buried back in Ontario in the Avonbank Presbyterian Cemetery. In 1920, the census records the entire family still at 12 Lakeview Avenue, in Jamestown. Now, Elizabeth D. Wilson, a widowed sister of Bell was living with the family. In 1930, only Nelson and Bell's two younger children were living in the household. O. Nelson was now the President of the Farmers & Mechanics' Bank. Nelson and Bell were both active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown. Nelson served from time to time as a deacon, an elder, and a trustee, also serving as Sunday School superintendent. Bell was a member of the Parks Bible Class, and the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Needlework Guild, and an honorary member of the Visiting Nurses Association. Nelson was very active in the YMCA and in Masonic matters. When the Farmers & Mechanic's Bank merged with the Bank of Jamestown, Nelson became engaged in the insurance business with New York Life. Nelson evidently suffered a heart attack while on a motor trip up the lake with his wife Bell, and upon returning entered the W.C.A. Hospital in Jamestown, where he died the following day, Saturday, 29 Nov 1941. His funeral was held the following Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, with a Masonic ritual. He was buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown, New York. Isabelle lived another 18 years, and died Saturday, 26 Dec 1959, in the W.C.A. Hospital, Jamestown. At the time of her death she was living at 75 Barrett Avenue. Her funeral services were held Tuesday, 29 Dec 1959 in the Henderson-Lincoln Chapel. Rev. Gilbert F. vanBever, minister of the First Presbyterian Church presided. She is buried with her husband in the Lake View Cemetery. She was survived by her four children and nine (of ten) grandchildren. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
