Catherine Kate Zimprich

Katherine Kate Eileen Detwiller Walen Zimprich died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 29, 2011 in Fargo, ND.

She was born September 19, 1926 to Harry and Lillian (Williams) Detwiller.  She married Marvin Walen on June 3, 1946.  They had three children, Jerry, Dale and Sandra.  Marvin died Oct 1, 1957.  On July 2, 1958 Kate married Joe Zimprich Jr., who had one son Terry.  Together Kate and Joe had three children, Cheryl, Kevin and Susan.  Joe died October 5, 2004.

Prior to moving to the farm Kate worked at the C&D Market in Cooperstown, ND.  After moving to the farm near Aneta, ND she was active in all aspects of farming; milking cows, hauling hay bales, driving truck, growing a large garden and processing chickens, all while raising seven children.  In her spare time she also enjoyed quilting.  At the age of 60, she started a new career as a CNA at the Aneta Parkview Health Center.  She worked there until she was 80.  She moved to Fargo in 2009.  Kate was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aneta.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her son Kevin in March 2008, her brother Bill Detwiller and her sister Mary Evelyn Palzkill.

She is survived by her children:  Jerry and Pam Zimprich, Bismarck, ND; Dale and Gailo Zimprich, Fargo, ND; Sandra Olsen, Fargo, ND; Terry and Michele Zimprich, Fort Collins, CO; Cheryl and Todd Whitman, Aneta, ND and Susan and Corey Germundson, Fargo, ND, also 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.  She is also survived by her brother Patrick Detwiller, Moorehead, MN; and her sisters-in-law:  Betty Detwiller, Cooperstown, ND; Joyce Heinz, Cooperstown, ND; Mary Jane Sears, Aneta, ND; Anne Speldrich, Sykeston, ND and Rita Simprich, Aneta, ND.

She is also survived by several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church of Aneta, ND.

Visitation will be Monday, May 2, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel.

Internment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Aneta, ND.
