Notes: Otto and Bertha met and resided in Napa, Califoria. Once married, they moved to nearby Vallejo. Otto worked at fruit farming and by 1910 he had a fruit stand. Successful as a fruit merchant, the fruit stand evolved into a grocery store owned by them. By 1940 Otto and Bertha were both classified as Proprietor (Source 1530).

The first photo is of Otto John Martin Jr. and Otto John Martin Sr. in 1931. The middle photo shows Otto Sr. with his first grandson James Martin in 1946. The right-most photo shows James Martin with Otto Sr. in 1947 or 1948.

Otto's and Bertha's first child was born on 30 Jul 1905 and was unnamed in the California Birth Index. I assume the child was stilborn. In any case, he or she had died by 15 Apr 1910 when the 1910 Census was taken.

Otto and Bertha were married for nearly 40 years.
