Notes: In the Fall of 1905 George moved his family down from Blue Mountain to a one-story house with a basement at 21 North Street within the city limits of the town of Napa. George left almost immediately and returned to his work in Vacaville.

The Hancocks lived nearby at 124 North Street. (The name of the street was later changed to Behrens Street.) North Street was circled by Redwood Creek.

At that time, the most popular mode of transportation was walking — because the streets were not paved and most of the stores and buildings were clustered around Main and First Streets.

In 1906 when the earthquake hit San Francisco, the family's house swayed, their chimney crumbled, and a smokey haze was visible for days. Many San Franciscans were evacuated from their homes and sent to Napa where people put them up in their spare rooms.

The photograph at the right shows 8 of the 9 family members in 1908 at North Street; only Walter is missing.

The Napa City Directory of 1908 and the 1910 U.S. Census both listed six residents at 21 North Street: Lucy, Walter, Bessie, Nora, Mildred, and Osmond. Edith and Alma married in 1907 and 1909, respectively, and had departed earlier. Bessie and Nora married later in 1910 and 1911, respectively, and moved out thereafter.

Lucy became ill with tuberculosis in 1912 and passed away at home at North Street on 8 Dec 1913. The only minor children left at home at that time were Mildred (age 17) and Osmond (age 12).
