MYRTLE MAY WALTON
      The death of Myrtle May Walton (nee Strome) of White Rock, B.C., occurred peacefully at the hospital in White Rock, on May 28, 1996.  She was 96 years.  Myrtle was born to Astor and Maude Strome in Brandon, MB., on May 5, 1900.  In 1906 her parents moved to Englefeld, SK., where they farmed until Astor's death in 1947.  Myrtle attended the Greenside School leaving at an early age to work at housekeeping on various farms.  She was excellent cook, housekeeper, needleworker and milker.
      In 1931 she married William Walton of Quill Lake, SK., who had lost his first wife.  She became mother to four children and put her skills to work on the family farm.  She always worked very hard and was an excellent manager.  In 1941 she and William moved to White Rock, BC., where they bought a garage.  Wherever they lived Myrtle always had a good garden and many flowers.
      Myrtle was very active in the Hospital Auxilary which raised funds for the White Rock Hospital for many years, helping the blind to bowl, and the Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to travel by air to visit her family in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta.  She became an avid bowler in her later years until her stroke in 1988 forcing her to leave her home.
      Myrtle will be lovingly remembered by her six children:  Betty (Ray) Schwartz, Englefeld, SK.; Bill (Ruth) Walton, Auckland, N.Z.; Joan (Lawrence) Schwartz, White Rock, BC.; Kay (Chuck) Freeman, Nanaimo, BC.; Gordon (Barbara) Walton, Gimli, MB.; David (Shelia) Walton, Calgary, AB.  Many grandchildren and great grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; 3 sisters:  Eva Ritchie, Watson, SK., Minnie Smith and Dorothy (Jim) Armstrong, Quill Lake, SK.; 2 brothers:  Harvey (Vera) Strome and Jim (Renee) Strome, Calgary, AB.
      She was predeceased by her parents, Astor and Maud Strome; her husband William Walton in 1972; 3 brothers, Frank in World War II; Nelson (Faith) and Wilfred (Alvina) Strome; one sister: Bertha (Henry) Bieker; 2 brothers-in-law:  Howard Ritchie and Lloyd Smith; 4 grandchildren.
